Identity Crisis

August 18th, 2009

My blog is suffering from an identity crisis.

Back in January of 2008, I was a single girl going on bad date after bad date.  Some funny, some simply tragic… but still single all the while. This blog was all light and funny then. But now, I’m not-so-single anymore. And while I still have things to say, I’m not sure what to do with this space. (Hence the recent bout of silence.)

So, dear readers, you tell me… should I continue to write but cover more of my life? Should I write only about my relationship and relationships/dating in general, or should I take my ball and go home? What do you (or don’t you, as the case may be) want to read?

Writing about dates, however many or few they may be is writing about your love life… and since you still have one of those you should keep writing about it.

I’m sure I speak for many if not all of your readers when I say we’d love to hear about more of your life in general as well!

Maybe revamp as “Confessions of a One Date Wonder, who actually made it to a second date.. and found love”

Or maybe something not quite so cheezy lol but you get the idea =)

I don’t know that I’m willing to have my header redone but I do get the point. :)

I have no idea since it’s your blog. Do it for yourself like you do your life. If you try doing something to make us happy it’s not going to last. Just like in relationships.

I find this to be one of the oldest and funniest sentiments in the blogosphere. People have been saying it since publishing on the internet first began (believe me, I was there), and while it is always said with the best intentions, it is patently hilarious to me. If we wrote for ourselves and for no other reason, then blogging and all forms of online publishing wouldn’t exist. The very fact that we publish on the internet proves that none of us, not a one, is writing solely for ourselves. Those who say they are? Are lying. Because if we were, these words would be in a journal tucked under our mattress. By publishing our words and thoughts, we all acknowledge that we are writing not just for our own good, but for others to read. And, just like relationships (as you point out), it won’t work if we don’t consider the needs of all involved parties.

I agree with Mike. Don’t write for us – write for yourself. :)

Please see my note to Mike. I respect both of you a great deal, but that’s still one of the funniest and most prevalent misguided ideas about blogging. Never fear though, it is widespread and always well meant. It just makes me giggle. :)

I like your writing. Obviously you have to consider your audience, and you do But just keep blogging. Thanks!

You just need to keep blogging!!! Write about whatever you want to that day. It doesn’t have to be about any subject paticularly. Look at my blog. I write about whatever the hell I feel at the time. It’s more fun that way and you are not tied to one theme or subject matter.

Thanks. :) I always liked blogs that had a driving theme too, but not just those. I read lots of different things. I only asked because this blog was designed to be focused around one thing in particular and I’m diverging from the theme. But it sounds like folks in general are good with that too.

    Dearest Jane,

You know, just cuz you have LC doesn’t mean you aren’t gonna STILL have questions and funny things to share. I mean, I KNOW you, like in person, and well, you’re a nutty goofball so I’m SURE you’ll have lots to write about.

    Love,

    QT

    Dearest QT,

Why won’t you believe I’m actually dead? ;)

    Love always,
    Jane

I feel like Dave has formed a posse and sent them after me. Please don’t bust my kneecaps if I don’t update again until next week! ;)

I think you’re a great writer! Keep sharing whatever is important to you — WHATEVER it is!! Maybe just re-name your blog, now that you’re no longer a one date wonder! Maybe take votes on the new name of your blog – Adventures in Relationships?

I’m growing attached to the irony of the blog name now. It’s grown on me. ;)

As long as you still have stories to tell, keep writing them!
