To cut to the chase, he has been jerking her around for the better part of four years. He will flatly deny this; I'm pretty sure he doesn't believe it himself, but he calls her way too often for "just friends", typically more than once a day. But they don't live in the same place and he says he doesn't want a long-distance relationship, although to anyone else it so seems like they already have one. Anyway, my point is that some guys can be way dysfunctional about this and I would read more into the fact that it was V-Day and he didn't kiss you.
